Women of all races, ethnicities, socio economic status and educational background suffer with gender based violence and substance use disorders.

Substance use disorders are much higher in previously disadvantaged and negatively impacts mostly on vulnerable women and girls.

Research indicates that 70% of women with substance use disorders report history of physical or sexual abuse, making them vulnerable to infection by HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Women are less likely than men to seek help for substance use disorder due to shame and fear.

While treatment programmes for men are focused on breaking down a false sense of self-worth, those for a women are often focused on building self-esteem and confidence.

These unique problems associated with women with substance use disorders, specific treatment center for women only are required.
